Boat Building…

Perhaps you are looking for somewhere to build your own boat or learn the basic skills involved in traditional wooden boat building…you could stay for a week and build a handy little pram dinghy…alternatively, you might like to spend just three days and build a small sailing dinghy…or if it’s fun packed team building you’re after, for teams of four people, starting from scratch you can build Portsoy’s unique ‘Pessimist’ dinghy…and then see if it sails…or not!

Story Telling at The Bothy

When it come to Scottish culture and traditions, no matter what your interest, The Sail Loft is the ideal solution.  Situated by the shore of the Moray Firth in the picturesque town of Portsoy in North East Scotland, The Sail Loft sleeps 25 (with private accommodation for group leaders). It offers self-catering accommodation including 25 luxurious beds and bunks and boasts a carefully designed modern open-plan communal kitchen, dining area and lounge, laundrette, drying room, secure cycle storage and wash-down area and that all-important social space for relaxation after hours.

A few minutes’ walk from The Sail Loft is the Boatshed, a purpose designed and fully equipped workshop for boat building or restoration…and for musicians and storytellers there’s the historic Salmon Bothy, a beautifully appointed creative space with excellent acoustics. Both are tailor-made to provide an inspirational atmosphere.

We can also provide facilities for individuals or groups wanting to study our fascinating geology, coastal plants, or bird and sea life, and for those interested in conducting dance or drama workshops in our ideal Salmon Bothy.
