Sail Loft Flooding

Update
The Sail Loft has resumed normal business following reinstatement of the access road and repairs to the damage caused by the flood water. The accommodation was fully booked for the recent Scottish Traditional Boat Festival which took place in the town on 24th & 25th June. Booking can be made via our website. The Sail Loft Team would like to sincerely thank all contractors, Aberdeenshire Council and the local community for their excellent efforts and offers of help in response to these events.

Incessant rain over two days in June saw the Back Green area badly flooded, affecting the newly renovated £1.8 million Sail Loft Bunkhouse.

The accommodation part of the hostel was not affected as it stands on the highest part of the site, however, the communal kitchen and living room areas were affected. The flood prevention system, including a sump pump, did kick in to action as the flood came, vastly reducing the level of damage to the property.

Moreover, the road over the bridge to the accommodation facility was entirely swept away by the flooding.

The Sail Loft resident warden and one guest who was staying overnight were both safely evacuated from the building.

The damage will be fully assessed and repairs will be carried out as soon as possible to allow normal service to resume.
